From the side hustlers, to cooking gurus, to fort building architects, and pro snugglers - we love seeing all aspects of motherhood in the community.
We chatted with a few of these moms to get their take on motherhood. From honest advice to their best hidden snacks, read all their fun responses below!
Top 3 Mother's Day Wish List:
1. A trip (isn't that on everyone's list right now?)
2. A quiet day at a spa without feeling rushed
3. A Breville espresso machine
Best piece of mom advice:
Your go-to TK piece for mom life:
I love both of my TK pieces! The Charlotte sweatshirt is my go-to right now, especially during quarantine.
Top 3 Mother’s Day wish list:
1. Have the house deep cleaned
2. A trip somewhere warm
3. A day off from all mom duties
Best piece of mom advice:
Sometimes, you just have to survive. It's okay to let things go, change the schedule, break the "rules" you read about, and serve ice cream before dinner. It won't hurt them in the long run!
Favorite off-duty activity:
A trip with my husband and/or having time to work (I enjoy the quiet alone time!)
One thing your children have taught YOU:
To live in the present moment! My daughter is never worried about what she might be missing or if what she's doing makes sense at the time. She dives into everything and truly soaks it up. It's beautiful to watch and it's definitely starting to rub off on me.
Favorite snack to hide from the kid(s):
Ice Cream!
Top 3 Mother’s Day wish list:
I am really just hoping for nice weather to enjoy with Ellie & Matt. I’ve been working like crazy & I’d love a day with no have to do’s or distractions.
Best piece of mom advice:
Get up before your kid(s). It lets you start the day on your terms and with a little peace and quiet.
Favorite off-duty activity:
The beach, always.
One thing your children have taught YOU:
To pick your battles, but if you say there’s a consequence you had best be ready to follow through.
Favorite snack to hide from the kid(s):
Does champagne count?
Top 3 Mother’s Day wish list:
1. Plants/flowers for my garden
2. Pajamas to snuggle up in after a long day
3. A day of no cooking or dishes!
Best piece of mom advice:
Every day is new.
Favorite off-duty activity:
Gardening! While I love having the boys help in the garden, getting lost in my outdoor space, organizing my plants and playing in the dirt keeps me sane.
One thing your children have taught YOU:
I’m constantly in awe of my children’s resilience; Their ability to adapt to anything before them and continue to grow is absolutely outstanding.
Favorite snack to hide from the kid(s):
Nacho Cheese Doritos or my soft serve 🍦
Your go-to TK piece for mom life:
Both the Brynn button down & the Charlotte Sweatshirt! They keep up with the daily grind of motherhood while always making me feel put together. I’m able to dress them up for the day, dress them down for the beach as a cover up, wear them simply with jeans and everything in between!
Top 3 Mother’s Day wish list:
1. Breakfast in bed (and sleeping in!)
2. Homemade Henry gifts
3. Monogrammed/personalized jewelry
Best piece of mom advice:
Be present and soak up the little everyday moments, because it’s true what they say: the days are long but the years are so so so short. Also, don’t be afraid to ask for help if you need it!
Favorite off-duty activity:
Painting, reading, and snacking
One thing your children have taught YOU:
Don’t be afraid to live in the moment! It’s ok if your perfectly laid plans and schedules fall apart from time to time.
Favorite snack to hide from the kid(s):
Pirate’s Booty and extra toasty Cheese It’s
Top 3 Mother’s Day wish list:
1. An enormous, GOOD coffee, delivered to me in bed
2. On that note, I've been eyeing all the awesome pour-over coffee makers and would really love a new coffee setup!
3. The day to myself (alone?) haha! JK, sort of...Working from home as a scientist (AND mom) has been REALLY tough. My priority will always be to be present as a mom, which usually means my work productivity suffers. I love and miss my work and would love a few hours of quiet to catch up!
Best piece of mom advice:
There's NO SUCH THING as "the perfect mom." There are TOO many outside sources of expectations, some unachievable for us to compare ourselves to (social media, friends/family, celebrities...).The sooner we realize that not only is perfection not real, but representative of unrealistic standards, the sooner we can begin to accept and feel proud of ourselves and our own efforts. The better we feel about our efforts, the more sustainable these efforts are long-term. Motherhood brings SO MANY challenges--do your best and give what you have to give in the moment you have to give it--that is ENOUGH, YOU ARE ENOUGH.
Favorite off-duty activity:
My job? I love working in the lab. It allows me to exercise my own creativity, challenge my intellectual curiosity, and also enjoy the quiet, alone time. Beyond my science, I also love to exercise ( a great stress-manager)---and can be found at my local spin studio and/or local bootcamp sweating myself silly!
One thing your children have taught YOU:
Nothing, and I mean NOTHING, last forever--for better or for worse. There have been so many times as a new mom where James was going through different phases/habits that testing all of my patience. At the very moment I break down and say I just don't think I can do it anymore, something changes and it passes. Again, for better or for worse--I miss the chunky things and non-mobile stage, that passed too soon! : )
Favorite snack to hide from the kid(s):
Peanut butter. I am an "eat the PB straight from the jar" kinda girl, and my preferred peanut butter of choice has to be special-ordered online! It is sooo good, but fortunately/unfortunately, James and my husband think so too. Even if you catch me mid-mouthful, I will never reveal where my secret stash is :)
Your go-to TK piece for mom life:
Honestly, all of them. On weekends I am often seen in my Charlotte sweatshirt and jeans or leggings. During the week when the dress code is different, my go-to is my Brynn shirt in coastal stripe. It is such a versatile piece, very lightweight and great for layering. I really feel there is not much better for your wardrobe than a good basic button down, especially if it's made of quality (and WASHABLE) cotton! I recently (and finally) got the Brynn shirt in Peony Stripe and can't wait to wear!
